Products liability refers to responsibility for harm caused by a defective product. A products liability claim may be brought against any member of the distribution chain of a dangerous or defective product, including the designer, manufacturer, supplier of component parts, the wholesaler, and the retail store that sold the product. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, deaths, injuries and property damage from consumer product incidents cost the United States more than $700 billion annually.
Products liability claims may arise out of negligence, breach of warranty or strict liability. |
